4.5 Star Review: Beauty and the Professor by Skye Warren...Once Upon a time...
Review: Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite fairy tale and I am a huge Skye Warren fan. Combine these two and you have magic!
The opening of this book was shocking *singing* in the most delightful way! In the first few pages, I knew I was in for a wildly sexy read, and this book delivered!
Erin and Blake have a unique love story. The young, beautiful, and bright graduate student, Erin, who was in desperate need of money cleaned houses. She worked for Blake, a former military man whose face was half burned from an IED. He is a lost and angry soul who had no desire to return to the living world until Erin. Blake's brilliant mind and chiseled body were brought back into life through his relationship with Erin. Their relationship was a taboo one. Blake was fifteen years her senior and a professor at her university. I love Skye's ability to add taboo elements to her books that still have you completely rooting for the characters. There is also a glorious amount of kink, which I will let you dear read discover on your own. When using taboo or kinks Skye never makes her stories feel creepy or wrong, which is essential to me! It only adds an element of fun and naughtiness! It creates a new type of intimacy between the characters.
The way Erin looks at Blake makes the reader forget his beastly looks and disfigurement. We hear other people make fun of him, but she is loyal and loving from the beginning. Their feelings for one another is merely beautiful. Blake cared for her in a way she had never felt. These two people who completed the other were constantly struggling with their inner demon of self-doubt. Both feared, for extremely different reasons, that they were not good enough for the other. At one time each had been abandoned and made to feel worthless. They both carried that scar that made them fit so wonderfully together.
I loved part one of this love story. There was angst, struggles, villains, secrets, and lots of super hot lovemaking. I'm sure there is a more eloquent way of phrasing it, but it is what it is. I know this is labeled as erotic romance, but this is not erotic in the way that some authors take it. This story is about love. Sex in their relationship is based on mutual respect, understanding, the desire to comfort, and show the depth of their feelings to the other.
Be warned this ending was heartbreaking. Which leaves me to the negative. I feel there is really only one, this duet should have been one book. I was lucky to have both books at one time, so it wasn’t too bad for me! Lol I can't imagine those who read it as a serial. Due to its original serial nature there seem to be minimal gaps in the story, which is more apparent in book two, Falling for the Beast, but overall this is a very minor complaint.
Get ready to fall in love with Erin and Blake and know book two is only a week away!
